Match Funding

Match Funding at The Abbey School

We encourage Match Funding – many large companies will match the money we raise. All you need to do is ask your employer!

What is Match Funding?
Match funding (or matched-giving) is a simple way to maximise the funds raised. It is a corporate arrangement where companies pledge to donate an amount related to what their employee donates to, or raises for, an organisation.

Examples of Match Funding:

  • A parent who works for a company offering match funding volunteers on the refreshment stall at one of the school fairs organised by the Abbey School Friends Association. If the stall makes a profit of £200, the parent’s employer could match this with a further £200 (assuming a £ for £ match).
  • A parent may make a cash donation or take part in a sponsored fundraiser (e.g., a marathon or sky dive), which could also be matched by their employer.

Ways Organisations May Match Funds:

  • Time donated by employees for voluntary work
  • Cash donations made to the charity
  • Funds raised from sponsored events
  • Funds raised through specific activities, such as staffing a stall at a Friends event

Companies may also consider gifts in kind, such as donating equipment or services (e.g., in-house printing). In some cases, this can be even more valuable than a cash donation.

How Do I Know if My Employer Offers Match Funding?
Most employers expect you to raise the question yourself. Start by speaking with your line manager, HR department, or community relations manager.

Tips for Success:

  • Explain the value of supporting The Abbey School Friends Association.
  • Highlight why the school needs funds and how your contribution benefits the school community.
  • Once your employer agrees to match funds, ask them to provide a written pledge to the Abbey School Friends Association, including any agreed limits.
