Today Year 5 used drama and role-play to work through a range of learning objectives linked to their History Topic, the Shang Dynasty.
They worked together to act out events that happened throughout the timeline of the Shang, from 1600BC to 1046BC. The children discussed the different roles in Shang society and their religious beliefs and customs. They also learnt about Fu Hao, an important member of the royal family who was a military general and a priestess who used oracle bones to talk to their ancestors. And what made this figure most exceptional, was that she did all this and was a woman! The children compared the typical role of women in Shang times compared with women’s role in society today.
It was a fantastic way to bring to life many interesting aspects of life during the Shang Dynasty!
